Dear Friends:

The Halcott Town Board has asked that you be made aware of the following:

1. Should you witness any ATV abuse, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office asks that you contact them as soon as possible. You may call 518-943-3300 or the cell phone of Greg Seeley, our Sheriff: 518-821-0257. Last Monday night, the Sheriff and two deputies came to Halcott to answer questions about the use and misuse of ATVs. We are far from the rest of Greene County, and so the response time for ATV problems can be slow. They welcome the chance, however, of patrolling the Town if we can give them some guidance on patterns and habits of illegal ATV activity.

2. On another note: the Grange building will be sprayed for cluster flies on Tuesday, October 24th. Therefore, the building will be locked from 12 noon until 6PM. Any questions may be directed to Pete and Nancy Ballard, 254-4141.

New legislation requires all homeowners receiving a Basic STAR exemption to register with the New York State Tax Department in order to receive the exemption in 2014 and subsequent years. Please follow this link to renew your Basic STAR exemption:

Free community WiFi at the Grange

If you haven’t experienced the new open WiFi internet service at the Grange prepare to be pleased. It’s fast, reliable and a lot closer than the Skene Library. Many thanks to Margaretville Telephone Company and all the town’s people who worked hard to make this happen.

With local hosts no less! Roxbury’s WIOX Radio, 91.3 FM broadcasts Jim Rauter’s show, Nica’s Dream on Sunday 10:00am to noon. Jim plays a dreamy mix of classic jazz. On Saturday afternoon listen for Alan Reynold’s show, Pure Country from 4:00pm to 6:00. Alan builds his show from his massive country music collection and a knowledge base to match. You can also hear Alan on Sunday night from 10:00 to midnight at the Radio Truckstop.

Listen online at WIOX.org or at 91.3 FM and on MTC channel 20. Give a listen. Give a call. Let them know someone out there is listening and appreciates the hours of production work.
