Propane Price Wars – Update from Alan Adelson

Both Paraco and Suburban have reduced their price for the new contract to $1.65 per gallon. We have heard from an additional Suburban customer who, like our own household, was left “sweating bullets” last winter when Suburban did not deliver gas for several weeks after we requested the refill.

Ned Howard at Paraco advises folks who want to change over from Suburban to coordinate with him so he’ll be ready for a quick installation. By doing so you can burn the Suburban gas down to 10% of your tank to avoid losing much because of Suburban’s restocking fee. His phone number is 845-745-2159.

If you want to change over, please contact me as well by email: alanadelson@gmail.com, as I will need to update our participants list.

Important Information About Propane Prices – from Alan Adelson

We have secured a significant price cut in our rate with both Suburban and Paraco after an intense negotiation, and this despite increases in the typical wholesale propane price. Both companies will now be charging $1.69 per gallon WITH NONE OF THE ADDITIONS FOR “SAFETY,” “DELIVERY,” AND OTHER CHARGES THAT SUBURBAN WAS CHARGING IN THE PAST.

Suburban’s customer service manager, John Pelletier, has assured the above terms will be applied to all Halcott co-op participants as he prepares a new contract. However, we are receiving reports that the company is overcharging. BEWARE AND COMPLAIN TO THE NUMBER ON YOUR BILL IF YOU ARE OVERCHARGED.

Suburban’s regional office management has changed, and their service has deteriorated. I can report that this winter on my own account we were forced to wait far too long, and were perilously close to running out of gas during the past heavy winter. I advise our participants to order tank re-fills well ahead of any urgent need, and to consider shifting to Paraco where hopefully the service will be more reliable. Change-overs may involve restocking fees from Suburban for gas presently in your tanks. Both companies offer free gallons to customers who enlist new participants. Please email me at alanadelson@gmail.com to enlist new participants or to report all changes in your status and any billing problems.

Here are contacts for both gas providers:
• Paraco: Edward Howard
• Suburban: John Pelletier

Call the number on your bill, and please let me know by email (alanadelson@gmail.com) if you have any problems.
