Winter Friendly Reminder
It is the highway department’s goal to keep town highways in a passable condition during the winter months. Any type of obstruction located in the town’s right-of-way may hinder the ability of snow removal. In an attempt to clear the roads, our drivers try not to damage any obstructions in the right-of-way, however that may not always be possible. Therefore, any damage which may be done to mailboxes, fences, and the like, while the town highway department is trying to maintain the roads during the winter, will not be repaired or replaced by the town, but at the owner’s expense.
Parking on any County or Town road in Halcott is prohibited during snow season, from November 1st through April 30th. Vehicles parked in the Town right-of-way obstruct snow removal and will be towed at the owner’s expense.
Attention Home Owners
It is a violation to plow snow across or shovel back into a Town, County, or State highway when residents clear out or hire to clear their own driveways and/or sidewalks. Pay special attention to the job your plowman performs while removing the snow from your driveway. Should any snow be pushed out from your driveway or private road across a Town, County, or State highway causing ice or left into the highway creating a hazard and it causes an accident, the survivors can own your home. Remember, the landowners or owners are liable for all damages.
Thank you for your cooperation,
Town of Halcott Highway Department
